Avi Katz

Born in Israel and raised primarily in Maine, Avi first discovered rock climbing on small sea cliffs in Acadia National Park. After graduating high school he found employment at the nearest climbing gym and began teaching belay classes and private lessons. Avi started climbing outdoors with new friends and coworkers in the Shawangunks, NY and at Rumney, NH. He fell in love with both the ethics of traditional climbing and the gymnastic nature of sport climbing. In 2009, Avi made a commitment to climbing instruction, enrolling in an Outdoor Education & Leadership degree program at Central Wyoming College in Riverton, WY. Since completing his degree he has instructed climbing at various levels in Arizona, California, Colorado, Maine, New Hampshire, Utah, and Wyoming.

Above all else, Avi values safety and reward in his guiding. His drive to provide the safest, most effective, and rewarding climbing experience motivated him to become an American Mountain Guides Association certified Single Pitch Instructor and to complete the next step in his guide training, the Rock Guide Course. He plans to continue his certification process and become a certified Rock Guide.      Avi's perfect day of guiding is one that leaves his students with new skills, a feeling of accomplishment, and a shared passion for climbing.

When not enjoying the vertical life, Avi can be found racing triathlons, planning his next adventure, or exploring the darkest recesses of his local library.
